I’ve heard many business owners say that they won’t use AI of any sort in their businesses. I understand the desire to keep a good hand on content and the general goings-on of your business, but if you’re reading this or listening to podcasts, you’re most likely using AI in some way, shape or form in your business already.

Your website, your email provider, even your Gmail-powered inbox: they’re all powered by AI. As is whatever search engine you use and your favorite social media platform.

And most of these can be leveraged to help you get more efficient and impactful with everything you’re doing online.

The last two episodes we’ve talked about using AI in your content, but your content is just one part of your marketing. So let’s talk about what it looks like to use AI in your marketing as a whole.

AI in marketing involves data analysis, automation, personalized content, lead generation, SEO, and so on.

Here’s a quick overview of some of these:

  • Data Analysis: AI is really good at analyzing large datasets to extract meaningful insights. In marketing, this involves understanding customer behaviors, preferences, and trends. Tools like machine learning algorithms can sift through customer data to identify patterns, helping in segmenting audiences and tailoring marketing strategies. Think: Excel (yes, Excel), Google Analytics, Hubspot, Kissmetrics and more.
  • Automation: AI automates repetitive and time-consuming tasks. This includes everything from sending out targeted emails at the most effective times to managing social media posts and even creating ad campaigns. Automation increases efficiency, allowing marketers to focus on more strategic tasks. SO many tools have built-in automations these days, depending on what plan or tier you’re on. Your email marketing tool is one of them, but so is your social media scheduler, Zapier, and more.
  • Personalized Content: AI allows hyper-personalization in marketing. By analyzing individual customer data, AI can create highly personalized content and recommendations. This might involve personalized emails, product recommendations on e-commerce sites, or dynamic content on web pages that change based on the visitor’s profile. This is really prevalent in email marketing and opt-ins, but also in shopping carts, upsells and downsells and so on.
  • Customer Insights and Predictive Analytics: AI tools can predict future customer behaviors based on historical data. This predictive analysis helps in anticipating market trends, understanding customer needs, and making informed decisions about future marketing strategies. We can even predict where most people will look on a website using a tool like Hotjar.
  • Chatbots and Customer Service: AI-powered chatbots provide instant customer service and support. They can handle a range of tasks from answering FAQs to helping with transactions or booking appointments, thereby enhancing customer experience.

After hearing that list, I don’t think I need to explain why we need and want AI in our marketing. But just in case, I’ll share!

  • Increased Efficiency: By automating routine tasks, AI frees up time for marketers and business owners to focus on creative and strategic parts of the business. We can do certain tasks so much easier and faster…and sometimes with fewer errors!
  • Scalability: When AI takes over some tasks, it’s easier to scale the business. We’re spending less time doing stuff that can be automated, so we have more time to be in other parts of the business.
  • Enhanced Customer Insights: AI’s ability to process and analyze large datasets gives us deeper insights into customer behavior and preferences. Which allows us to create more targeted and effective marketing strategies.
  • Improved Personalization: We all want to feel like we’re getting exactly what we need, exactly when we need it. AI enables a level of personalization that’s difficult to achieve manually. From personalized email marketing to customized product recommendations, AI makes it possible to tailor content to individual customers, increasing engagement and conversion rates.
  • Better ROI: With improved targeting, personalization, and efficiency, AI can significantly enhance the return on investment (ROI) of marketing campaigns. It helps in optimizing marketing spend by directing resources to the most effective strategies and channels.
  • Competitive Edge: AI-powered tools can provide real-time insights and quicker adjustments to marketing strategies, giving businesses a competitive edge in rapidly changing markets.

What are some other ways you can use AI in your marketing, that you might not be using right now?

  • Trade Shows and Events: Participating in trade shows, exhibitions, and hosting events to promote products or services. These provide opportunities for direct interaction with potential customers and partners. ** If you’re at an event, create a QR code for people to download info about you…and your freebie. Set up automated emails from there – you can do the same with outdoor advertising
